City OKs Regent Street redesign without bike lanes; fusion research funds

Madison’s City Council approved plans to redesign Regent Street near Camp Randall Stadium, following months of debate over a new layout for one of Madison’s main cultural hubs and one of the west side’s major east-west connector streets.

Prompted by deteriorating pavement conditions and below-ground infrastructure, the new layout’s primary goal is to improve the pedestrian experience. The design will widen existing sidewalks from 6 to 9 feet and include more trees along the street.

RSK: This is one that has to be seen in use to really give an opinion. On the surface, I feel it will be a problem for cars and bikes. There is a bike path not far from REGENT, however.
