The push to decarbonize buildings continues to grow nationwide and
around the world. As efforts expand, building owners are looking at
sustainable technologies and systems that will help their properties
meet new mandates and, hopefully, save on operating costs, too. Among
the considerations, upgrading heating and cooling systems is a top
priority for many owners. Keeping properties warmed and cooled accounts
for a huge chunk of a building’s carbon footprint, and they have been a
big target for slashing energy use. With electrification one of the
major goals, heat pump technology is a natural fit, as most systems are
run on electric power instead of fossil fuels. But as efficient as heat
pumps can be, they are more efficient when you combine them with
geothermal technology. This new type of heat pump system has been
getting a ton of buzz lately, especially in New York City, where two
large residential projects in the works will feature some of the largest
geothermal systems in the state. .. RSK: Geothermal makes more sense in northern climes, however, they do not discuss the cost of putting in such a system. | ||
