Mall of America gives free space to retailers harmed by pandemic and social unrest

Minnesota’s Mall of America will dedicate a retail space called Community Commons to shops in Minneapolis and St. Paul whose businesses have been disrupted by the pandemic and social unrest brought about by the killing of George Floyd.

Located on Level 2 South, the 5,000-sq.-ft. space will include 17 shops selling apparel and accessories, art and culture, food and beverage, personal care, and family gifts. Community Commons tenants will remain in place through the spring of 2021.

Brands joining the section include Urban 29, Art Piece Soul Gallery & Studio, Captain Rebel, Fabulous Diva Boutique, La Michoacana Purepecha, and Llakta.

RSK: Nice if only the shoppers will come.

Heather Ewing: The mask ordinance helps as people feel more comfortable shopping and visiting retailers although it is still a daily struggle.
