NPD Group: Digital restaurant ordering by adults 65 and older increases 428% year-over-year in June

Coronavirus pandemic leads to older American consumers utilizing technological options more than ever before

The coronavirus pandemic has driven many changes in consumer behavior, and among the most impactful is the rapid rise in using technology to order from a restaurant. Perhaps no consumer group has raced toward digital more quickly during this period than older Americans.

According to global market research firm The NPD Group, the percent of restaurant traffic sourced to digital increased from 5% in January 2020 to 13% in June 2020. Digital orders increased by 135% in June compared to a year ago.

A major contributor to those increases were older Americans...

RSK: Not surprising. What does surprise me is the amount of seniors who do not know how to use their cell phones....they have one but do not take it with them or use it. They like the old land line corded phones. Time to get with it...the learning curve is short and sweet...
